You know, I always keep this image with me to remind myself of something I don’t ever want to forget. The beginning of learning any skill at all is going to be tough. That there are a lot of things I want to learn and be good at in life (art, the piano, the violin, woodworking, dancing, so on) and that I will almost invariably get a rocky starting to all of them. That I will always suck in the beginning, always. I will play like my fingers are broken, draw like a toddler, dance like I’m having a spasm at the start. And if I look at the people who manage to make it look effortless, people who’ve done this for so long it’s become second nature to them, then it’ll be all too easy to quit.
